NY Man Arrested After Waving Gun on Live TV

During what was supposed to be a routine news broadcast out on the streets, something far from ordinary appeared in the background. For only a few seconds in the background, viewers noticed what appeared to be a man waving a silver pistol in the background.

Naturally, after seeing this many viewers called an NYPD tipster hotline to report what they had seen. Without wasting much time at all, police were able to figure out the man’s first name, the general vicinity of his residence, and a grocery store that he frequented. Only a short while later NYPD officers caught up with a man who goes by the name of Simon Khanukov.

Local news was reporting on a high-profile trial at the time of the incident, and because of his actions Khanukov is now facing charges of menacing and harassment. As it turns out, the weapon that was flashed on TV was not a real firearm, but rather an elaborate lighter that has taken on the appearance of a gun. At the end of the day, Khanukov put himself in this predicament and now has a long line of legal hoops to jump through in order to have his record cleared.

In order to nab the suspect, police investigators gathered as much info as possible and stationed themselves in an area that they believed was where Khanukov lived. It didn’t take much time before a detective noticed someone who appeared to look identical to the man seen on TV.

This story should serve as a warning to other people who like to act without putting any forethought into their actions. Even though this was not an actual weapon, it had many people confused. Now imagine if this same sort of incident happened within feet of police. If that happened Mr. Khanukov may have been faced with a much more dire scenario than a few court cases.
